EARLY LIFE AND ACHIEVEMENTS.

Machel Jesus Montano was born in 1974, in Carenage, Trinidad and moved to Siparia at a very young age. He attended Siparia Boys’ Roman Catholic School and then completed his secondary education at Presentation College, San Fernando.

At the age of 9 years old, he performed his very first soca, “Too Young To Soca”. In 1984, Machel along with his older brother, Marcus, they formed the group, “Pranasonic Express” and 5 years later it became known as the band, “Xtatik”. Machel is also responsible for introducing soca to the international television and at the tender age of 9, he performed alongside the Mighty Sparrow, in Madison Square Garden, New York. Then, at the age of 12 he entered a Caribbean Song Festival in Barbados.

He achieved the Bob Marley entertainer of the year award for 2007 and three years later, he was the first soca artiste to perform at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

He has worked with international artistes such as Pitbull, after having gone on tour with him for 5 weeks in 2010. The year of 2012 seemed very prosperous for Mr. Montano, after having won the Groovy Soca for his song, “Mr. Fete”, Power Soca with, “Pump Yuh Flag”. His achievements did not stop there as he was nominated in the international Soul Train Awards for his song, “The Fog”, in 2013.

To date, Machel is the leading Soca artiste and has won the most awards so far. He has impacted greatly to the music industry of Trinidad and Tobago and his success continues.
